Thank you, Chris. I am currently stationed on Okinawa, Japan, so it may be awhile before I can give anyone a call. I have pretty much hit a roadblock in reference to my gg-grandfather, Samuel Robert Ayres. He was born in 1864 in Florida, and is shown in the household of Thomas and Sarah Ayres, in Marianna, Florida on the 1870 census (page 16 of the census, line 19-24). There is also a Thomas and Sarah Ayres shown on page 18 of the same census, lines 3-6. Looking at the ages of each person, it seems that the household on page 16 may be Thomas' siblings that he is responsible for, while page 18 may be his wife Sarah and children. Since Samuel wasn't born until 1864, it will be difficult to figure out who his father was. Has a DNA project been started on the Catawba tribe? I would like to participate if one has. Thank you for this site, and for all the information.
